UGro Coco Pure Perlite 70/30 buffered coco-perlite substrate in a 50-litre bag

UGro Coco Pure Perlite 70/30, 50 l – ready-to-use, airy coco substrate

UGro Coco Pure Perlite 70/30 is a pre-washed and buffered mix of 70% coco substrate and 30% perlite. The coco substrate helps retain moisture, while perlite improves aeration and the drainage of excess water.

The loose substrate in this 50-litre bag is ready to use straight away: there is no need to soak a compressed coco brick or measure out the two components separately. It is suitable for growing in pots indoors, in greenhouses and outdoors.

A practical choice if you are looking for a peat-free substrate pre-mixed with perlite and want to adapt your plants' nutrient supply to your own watering and feeding system.

70% coco and 30% perlite – water retention and aeration combined

The mix is based on a medium-structured coco substrate with a low fibre content. It retains moisture around the roots, while the added 30% perlite helps maintain the substrate's loose, open structure.

Perlite is a lightweight mineral material of volcanic origin. Combined with coco substrate, it creates a mix in which drainage and aeration work alongside water retention. Adjust watering frequency to the size of your plants, the container and the growing conditions.

  • Pre-mixed 70/30 ratio: No need to add perlite separately to prepare the base mix.
  • Loose, uncompressed texture: Simply pour it into your planting container.
  • Peat-free composition: Coco substrate with mineral perlite.
  • Naturally occurring Trichoderma fungi.
  • For indoor and outdoor use.

Pre-washed and buffered substrate

The coco material is washed during production and then buffered. Pure Perlite belongs to the manufacturer's Buffered-charged range: calcium nitrate is used during pre-treatment to influence the coco substrate's natural ion exchange.

The specified pH range is 5.5–6.8, and the EC value is below 0.5 mS/cm when measured at a 1:5 ratio. These figures describe the substrate; the nutrient solution you apply must be adjusted to your plants' needs.

Buffering does not replace a plant's complete nutrient supply. Use a nutrient solution suitable for coco substrates and adjust the dosage to the plant's stage of development, your irrigation water and the fertiliser manufacturer's instructions.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Prepare the container. Use a pot or growing container that allows excess irrigation water to drain away.
  2. Add the substrate. The mix is ready to use. Fill the container loosely and avoid pressing it down firmly.
  3. Moisten the substrate evenly. Before planting, check that the substrate is sufficiently moist throughout.
  4. Position the plant. Place the root ball in the container and fill the space around it with the mix.
  5. Adjust watering and feeding. Monitor substrate moisture and plant development, and follow the instructions for your chosen fertiliser.

A 50-litre bag is enough to fill approximately five 10-litre pots. The amount actually needed also depends on the fill level and the volume of any existing root balls.

Storage and substrate care

Store any remaining substrate in its resealed original bag in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Protect it from contamination and check its moisture level before use.

While your plants are growing, make sure the container drains properly. Perlite supports aeration, but the amount and frequency of watering still need to match the plant's needs and the growing conditions.

Why choose UGro Coco Pure Perlite?

UGro Coco Pure Perlite 70/30 combines the water retention of coco substrate with the structure-improving properties of perlite in one bag. The pre-mixed ratio and loose texture make containers easy to fill, while the pre-washed, buffered material requires less preparation.

If you are looking for a peat-free, ready-to-use coco-perlite substrate that lets you manage your plants' nutrient supply, the 50-litre bag provides a practical starting point for several planting containers.
